NEET PG 2022 Exam Postponement: Supreme Court to Hear Urgent Plea

NEET PG 2022 Exam Postponement: Supreme Court to Hear Urgent Plea

The demand for the NEET PG 2022 exam postponement in the country has been gaining momentum. As the matter grows louder, recently, the Supreme Court of India has offered another reason that has made the candidates hopeful about the matter.

As per a report, the SC has decided to list the matter for urgent hearing. The recent updates inform that the ongoing NEET PG 2022 exam postponement matter will be heard on 13th May 2022.

The Supreme Court has informed that it will list the matter and will hear it as soon as possible to come up with a solution. The SC bench created for this matter is led by Justice DY Chandrachud. Well, the hearing date is only expected, and the court may change the date later.

More About This Matter

The plea filed by the medical students in the country in the Supreme Court seeking postponement of the NEET PG exam is due to various reasons. However, the primary reasons are:

  1. The medical students are demanding the exam’s postponement, citing anunfavorable gap between the NEET PG 2022 exam and the NEET PG 2021 counseling. They have been informedthat the exam date, which is scheduled for 21st May, is not appropriate for the students.
  2. Another reason is that a greater number of interns are now working in hospitals on COVID-19 duties. Due to this they may not be able to complete their internship on time. And that will make them not eligible to appear for the NEET PG 2022 exam if the exam is conducted on 21st May 2022.

As per the reports, the students have requested to postpone the exam by 8 to 10 weeks. Well, till now, the authorities have not given any comment on the ongoing postponement issue. The demand for postponement is getting louder with time, and the latest step taken by the SC can bring a new turn to this matter.

The Plea to Be Heard on 13th May by the SC Bench

As per the latest report, the plea has been accepted by the Supreme Court. An SC bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud would list the matter for urgent hearing. It is expected that after this, it can be confirmed whether the exam will be held on a previously set date or whether the authorities should change the date or not. As per a report, Rakesh Khanna, Senior Advocate, earlier brought this matter to the attention of the Supreme Court bench.

The Postponement Row

Forthe last four to five weeks, medical students across the country have been demanding to change the date for the NEET PG 2022 exam. Medical aspirants have said that the current exam data, which is 21st May 2022, falls very close to the counseling process of the NEET PG 2021, and the process has not been completed yet. Due to this, the medical candidates are demanding postponement of the PG medical entrance exam as it will help the candidates who have not been allotted seats to get a chance to reappear for the exam. If they follow the current timelines, the medical students participating in the counseling process will not get enough time to prepare for the exam.

However, under the current timelines, those aspirants who are participating in the ongoing counseling process will not be able to prepare for the exam.

Experts’ Opinions on This Matter

Dr. Manish, an Ex-member of the FORDA- Federation of Resident Doctors Association, has said that postponing the exam may lead to a shortage of doctors, and the solution can be extending the counseling dates. On the other hand, commenting on this matter, the AIMSA- All India Medical Student’s Association National Vice-President, Dr. Peeyush Singh, has said that it would be better if the authorities could postpone the exam instead of extending the counseling dates. This will allow the interns to appear for the exams. Well, it is a fact that there will be a manpower shortage, but postponing the NEET PG 2022 exam by around 8 to 10 weeks would not create a big issue. After the admission of a new batch, the current batch will then be promoted.

What about the effect of postponement on the academic cycle? It can be said that the current academic cycle has been disturbed. In the last few years, the NEET PG 2022 entrance exam has been postponing for several times. So, another change by a few weeks may not change much in the academic cycle. Some students may feel disappointed and annoyed if the exam postponed, but this is the time when the authorities need to think for everyone, informed Dr. Peeyush.

The experts’ reconsideration for exam postponement has been sent to the ministry, and they are currently looking into that matter. However, all are now waiting for the hearing of the Supreme Court as it may greatly influence the matter.

NEET-PG 2022 Postponed: Why It Happens and What Will Be The Consequences

NEET-PG 2022 Postponed: Why It Happens and What Will Be The Consequences

Recently, the Union Health Ministry took a decision that is expected to affect thousands of candidates preparing for their NEET exams. As per the latest report, the Union Health Ministry has decided to postpone the NEET PG exams by around six to eight weeks. However, the government has made such a decision based on the plea filed by many candidates in the Supreme Court. Some students have demanded that the exam be postponed.

For now, it can be said that the NEET PG 2022 exams will not be held on March 12. But the things that have created many worries are the government has not announced exact dates yet. On the other hand, some candidates also have requested to extend the deadline for the internship due to their ongoing COVID duty.

Why is NEET PG 2022 Exam Postponed?

The NEET PG 2022 exam has been postponed after demands from medical candidates. What were their demands? They were demanding to extend their internship deadline and postpone the exam. As most of the students are busy with their COVID duty, they may not be able to appear for NEET PG 2022 exam. As per a report, the deadline for the NEET PG internship competition is 31st May.

The FAIMA- Federation Of All India Medical Association has also conducted an online poll for this. And more than 85 percent of MBBS students voted for postponing the exam. More than 1.5 lakh students will take this exam.

What Are The Experts Saying?

As per Dr.Chinmayee Gowda, there should be a decent amount of gap between examination and counseling sessions.

But the counseling process for all India NEET PG exams will be completed by 3rd May. After that, the state counseling will begin, and this may get over by 31st May. While all the staff and students will remain busy with this process, they may not get sufficient time to prepare for the exam that was earlier scheduled to be held on 21st May. Most students have started this as very unfair. While the new session generally starts in August, if the exam is held in July, it may not affect the academic session of 2022.

Why Are Some Doctors Protesting It?

MBBS students need to take the NEET PG example if they want to specialize in different subjects, for instance, gynecology, general medicine, or surgery, after completing an MBBS degree. In general, the exam takes place during the month of January. But the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has delayed it.

As discussed above, the counseling process begins after the exam, allowing students who have cleared the exam to choose their college and stream. But this process was also delayed due to some pending cases in Supreme Court related to the reservation quota for EWS- Economically Weaker Sections.

Due to a delay in both NEET PG counseling and exam, medical students will not be able to start their academic courses. And as per the experts, this can lead to around one-third shortage of doctors around the country.

The reason behind this is while the senior MBBS students were moving on to begin their professional careers, the fresh batch of MBBS students was still unable to begin the course. So, it can create issues.

It Can Affect The Healthcare System

As per some studies, the delay in NEET PG 2022 exam can create a shortage of around 40000 to 450000 resident doctors at such a time when the country’s healthcare system is dealing with a serious situation. So, the delay in the exams is set to severely affect India’s healthcare systems, leading to a doctor-shortage situation.

Besides, a little delay can leave the students undecided between the choice of specialization or other alternatives. The delay can also make more doctors put their professional careers on hold.

Some Challenges That Can Arise Due To The Delay In Examinations

After the delays starting in 2021, the timeline of different processes as well as examinations has been affected severely. As per the experts, the authority only has been informed that there will be a delay of around 6 to 8 weeks. The most confusing thing is they have not announced a particular date for the examinations.

In fact, students also faced some delays last year, and that led to a major manpower crisis. And now the recent may also create some issues. The experts also have said that another batch of students will finish their PG courses in April or May, and that will lead to around a 30 to 35 percent shortage of manpower if the authority delays the examinations.

It may be noted that India has more than 38000 PG seats for around 78,000 MBBS students. Besides, the industry has 50 percent seats under the All India quota. And there are 50 percent state quota seats, around 19,000 MS or MD seats.
