I am student of ADR target central institutes crash course. For cracking central institutes you need a strong knowledge in basic concepts and a sound approach to the exam , both of which was provided by ADR plexus.. The faculties for this course were top notch and they have prepared their classes especially for central institutes. The most important class was the PGI strategy class by DR. I joined ADR plexus PGI mock tests and wrote the tests in their centre under their supervision so that I complete the paper without using extra time , which really shaped me up and made me crack PGI MAY 2018.. I strongly recommend every PGI aspirant to take up PGI mock tests in ADR plexus as their standard of questions is good and these mocks will give us a fair idea of where we stand..
Preparation Strategy
What was your study Plan?
For initial few months I spent it on preparing notes of important PGI topics while studying each subject.. So after 4 months I had read all subjects and I was well versed in all PGI topics and I had notes of it … so rest of the months I revised them..
How many hours did u study ?
12 – 15 hrs a day .. But there will definitely be some off days.
Your tips for success ?
Don’t just work hard , work smart too !!! There is a separate strategy for each central institute exam.. Analyse it and work smart …. Smart work will turn your hard work into success.
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Yes , as this was my 4th attempt of PGI exam…
1st attempt – 3600
2nd attempt- 404
3rd attempt – 477
4th attempt – 14 (obc rank 1)
Especially after 3rd attempt I lost confidence as my rank didn’t improve..
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
It really depends on each ones capacity.. For some just 6 months is enough… others may require more than that…
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
After NEET 2016 , around January 2017
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
I have this problem … This was the main thing pulling me down in exams… So I decided to concentrate on only one central institute exam (PGI) and prepared notes of all important PGI oriented topics for every subjects and kept revising them time and again every morning … I also noted down highly volatile tables , values , etc,, to revise them in the last week of exam
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
Am not good in following a strict timetable… But roughly I had a schedule of how many days are to be allotted for a subject … If I have allotted 3 days for a subject , then I’ll try to complete the notes of that subject in 2.5 days and remaining time I’ll solve Manoj Chaudhary questions of that subject… After this only I’ll move on to the next subject…
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
Determination and hardwork will always be rewarded.. Even when you aren’t getting the expected results initially, don’t back off in any situation..
Which books did you read for the theory part?
Follow whatever book you feel is comfortable ( prefer subject specialist’s books ).. But see to it that you incorporate in your class notes the extra points of PGI topics and some PGI topics not touched in class.. This is the most important part..
What was your strategy for the exam day?
Your mind needs to be fresh on the day of exam .. So a good sleep the day before exam is a must to attend PGI exams without making mistakes or frame shifts.. Please don’t burn mid night oil the day before exam!!!!!
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with 250 or started from middle of the question paper.
I started from question no.1 and completed the paper in order … I’ll skip and note down the questions which are difficult or taking a lot of time , and I’ll come back to it after completing the paper…
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
Yes , after my 3rd attempt of PGI, I was depressed and thought that a student like me with poor memory can’t crack PGI no matter how much hard we work… It was during this time constant encouragement from my friends helped me … Then I joined ADR target central institute crash course and when I attended PGI strategy class by Dr. ARUN KUMAR where Sir cited examples of students clearing PGI after lot of attempts , it gave me the impetus to move forward !!!
Tips for your Juniors
What was your strategy for MAY PGI 2018?
I prepared notes of important topics for every subject .. I was reading the class notes repeatedly in initial months.. During last 20 days I studied only PGI topics in detail and revised notes of important PGI topics which I made . I saw to it that I revise important topics of high yield subjects like pathology , biochem , OG , surgery , pharmacology in the last week before exam so that it stays fresh in my memory..
HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies
Cracking PGI mainly depends on completing the paper and devising a strategy which sets you .The number of choices to attempt in PGI depends on the individual .. Some top the exam with just 420 choices ( approx 360 right and 60 wrong options ) others with 500 ( 400 right and 100 wrong options )
You have to sort out which strategy will set you … this can be done only by writing mock exams.. In my previous attempts I used to mark 450 choices , but I wasn’t able to get a good rank…Then using Adr PGI mock exams and strategies told my Dr. ARUN KUMAR sir , I started marking around 500 -520 options and I was able to see the improvement.
In PGI MAY 2018 I marked more than 510 options….
What are the do’s and don’ts in PGI exam
Do’s :
· Complete the paper on time. Try to mark 90 questions per hour.
· Don’t waste too much time for a difficult question. Skip it and come back to it later.
· Shade the choices properly ( PGI strategy class will help you in this matter)
· If you frame shift or mark a wrong option accidentally, reduce that mistake my marking the right options for the question. Don’t panic and leave that question
· Be careful with words like ‘except’ , ‘all except’ in the questions.
Don’ts :
· Don’t have a sedate start by marking jus 50-70 options in first hour of PGI exam. Then you will have to rush through the options of last 100 questions and it will end up in marking lot of negatives in the last hour.
· Don’t end up marking too less options like 350 or too much options like 650
