I wrote ADR plexus Test series. They helped me a lot in getting familiar with the exam pattern and to concentrate more on the frequently asked topics in PGI exam. The explanations include a lot of information and are very authentic.
What was your study Plan?
Reading a particular topic…writing mcqs related to the topic…rerevising the topic and the mistakes made. Final goal was to not make the mistake again.
How many hours did u study ?
In the initial months of preparation I studied for about 6-7 hours a day…for the last month of revision it was 10-12 hours a day.
Your tips for success ?
A clear goal and a strong belief in yourself.
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Yes.. there were such times.. but I could push aside such doubts with the support of my family and friends…which played a crucial role in my success.
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
As PGI is a concept based examination…it requires repeated revisions and requires a good 8-10 months preparation
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
From November 2015.
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
Yes.. That was a frequent problem… pneumonic were helpful sometimes…but the most helpful were repeated revisions and a good quality sleep.
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
I used to allocate a part of my early morning time to meditation which helped me concentrate more…followed by the particular day’s subject. Doing mcqs of that subject helped me to consolidate the studied matter. I had to change my time table every other day.
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
Working hard is important…but there is something even more important than that…believing in yourself.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
ANATOMY – DUTTA, BIOCHEMISTRY – SATYANARAYANA, PHYSIOLOGY – LPR,
MICROBIOLOGY- ANANTHANARAYANA, PATHOLOGY- ROBBINS,
PHARMACOLOGY- TRIPATHI, FORENSIC – NARAYANA REDDY, ENT – HAZARIKA, OPHTHALMOLOGY- KHURANA, SPM- PARK, MEDICINE- DAVIDSON, SURGERY- SRB, OBG- DUTTA AND SHAW PAEDIATRICS – OP GHAI, ORTHO- MAHESWARI.
What was your strategy for the exam day?
To maintain a steady pace from the start..not too fast not too slow….In PGI as negative marking is more one should not attempt a completely new question. The time is a bit tight packed but it would be a real help if one could save at least 10 minutes for a last look out.
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.
I started from question 1 and marked all those options I was 100% confident…In the last ten minutes I had I maked the remaining less confident options.
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
Yes.. there were a few depressive phases.. but I had the motivation from my family , friends, and my seniors.
Tips for your Juniors
I started my revision one month before the exam..and in the week before the exam..I revised the commonly asked topics in PGI and ADR plexus papers.Writing ADR plexus papers helped me a lot in getting familiar with the pattern of the paper...which saves a lot of time in the main exam.
