I joined the ADRPLEXUS combo test series for AIIMS-PGI-JIPMER-NIMHANS May 2015. I found its test series to be an exclusive one and extremely useful especially for PGI since no other coaching Centre targets this exam in the south. Not only this, we had a 3 hour video discussion following each exam wherein in the very first discussion Sir outlined the pattern of PGI paper and the strategy to attempt it in the ever-so-short time of 3 hours. In other discussions too all faculty helped me formulate methods to approach questions in a smart and time saving approach. For this I am extremely thankful to ADRPLEXUS.

Preparation Strategy

What was your study Plan?

My basic approach was to strengthen the topics in each subject that was a common favourite in all exams including all india. For this I began with the papers of last ten years and identifying such topics and reading the same from standard textbooks such as ganong(physio), snell’s (anat), robbin’s (patho), harper’s ( biochemistry) etc. and eventually finishing off the topic by doing questions from appropriate subject-wise guides

How many hours did u study ?

Anywhere between 8-12 hours depending on the subject I was targeting in the current week

Your tips for success ?

Be sure to have a study partner. A study partner can ensure that you are almost always oriented in the right direction. Also do not listen to anyone who doubts in your dreams and abilities; always believe in yourself.

During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?

While preparing we all will encounter negative thoughts at least once, given the current scenario of all year round exams including dnb. So did I. Do make sure you have a good support system . I Am thankful that I had not just one but two sources of constant support- my Family and my study partner.

How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?

With serious preparation 8-10 months should suffice depending on individual speeds at covering topics

When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?

July 2014

Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?

Certain subjects will always be volatile. For instance anatomy. But anatomy is also a high yield subject so I dealt with it by reading snell’s .Whenever in doubt I would never hesitate to go back and open this book , look up its diagrams , read its clinical notes.

What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?

I cannot stick to a daily time table and therefore decided to read a subject a week such that the most important topics were covered on Monday and Tuesday, moderately important topics on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and least important and short topics on Saturday and test myself on sunday

What is your advice to the future aspirants?

Start early. Be regular. Be dedicated. Be stubborn. Believe

Which books did you read for the theory part?

I read both textbooks and guides

What was your strategy for the exam day?

Had a good nights sleep and breakfast. Arrived at the exam centre such that I wouldn’t be last nor first one to enter. Kept myself focused at all times

What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.

Whether aiims or pgi I always begin by reading the questions in the first hour and identifying the answers and using the remaining two hours to mark the options while coming back from the last question. This helps me be doubly sure that I haven’t missed anything such as EXCEPT or NOT.

Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?

As mentioned above, my parents, my brother and my study partner were always good source of support. While I did encounter disappointment and negative thoughts I never experienced depression as I would constantly share my thoughts with these people

Tips for your Juniors

What was your strategy for MAY 2015?

Attempt as many questions as possible. While attempting repeats better to read the question twice to thrice to be sure it’s not a twisted repeat.

HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies

AIIMS– 200 questions attempted

PGI – was unable to count but as sir advised I was on the higher side of 500

What are the do’s and don’ts in exam

Last minute revision doesn’t help in anything except keying you up. So avoid it if possible. When writing the paper , keep an eye on the time but don’t panic.
