How many questions did you attempt in this NOV AIIMS 2011?
What was your study Plan?
I started out simultaneously doing papers(AIIMS & ALL INDIA) from the beginning say 50-60Q odd everyday, and I followed the subject schedule according to adrplexus subject wise test and tried to finish 80-85% .Each subject before each subject test.
How many hours did u study ?
Well honesty, there’s no single no. it varied according to the time frame of preparation ranging from min 8-10hrs in the beginning to most of the day towards the end. But I always got a good night’s sleep.
Your tips for success ?
* Believe in yourself, your abilities always.
* Study for your own sake,to improve your grasp of knowledge rather than getting a rank, because getting through the entrance is not the end; in fact its only the beginning, so prepare for the future, your own future, not for passing through the gateway alone.
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Every single day in fact. But I later realized that’s normal considering whats expected of us. No matter what; keep studying that’s what keeps you going sometimes, the interest in the subject, not your latest test result.
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
I think the preparation starts right from first MBBS, with the foundation being laid then and being built on during these 6 months.
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
From around a month after residency got over.
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
Yes, volatile memory is what frustrated me the most towards the end. I discussed with friends a lot and many a time that not only Cheers you up, trut also reinforces your knowledge, & teaches u mew things as well.
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
I put weekly rather than daily timetable, kept 1 subject or 2 if small omes, I found it easier to stick to this rather than daily one.stickly to it was a problem sometimes, but as long as I covered 75-80% of what I originally intended to do,I was happy.
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
For PGI aspirants I would strongly advice brushing up your theory books for the basic subjects- anat, physio, biochem and referring Harrison for important topics, go for the papers towards the latter part of your prep.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
I referred ganong for physio, harper, class notes & lippinnott for bio chem. & chaurasia for anat ; Medicine→Class notes& topics from Harrison.
What was your strategy for the exam day?
I did’n think of the result or the various possible outcomes.I went with the idea of doing my best however the questions turn out to be & leave the rest to god.
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.
Well for me, I decide with the paper , but I always attended the first 100 questions in order, if I had plenty of time left I would contine in the same chronological order, but if time was less, I would check out of the last fifty. Because they are usually high & easy swing with the usual trick of “expect” in the question, which might be missed in a hurry.
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
Depression id ineritable during this preparation, got comes in waves.I used to listen to music, see a few my most inspiring movies, talk to my friends; most of all my family, esp. my mom helped me back & start over……..
Tips for your Juniors
What was your strategy for NOV PGI 2011?
I was confidant to an extent about the basic subjects, towards the end of worked out ‘chaudy’ I always took the adr plexus papers seriously and did a post mortem adr plexus each test that helped a lot.
HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies
In my opinion going with a fixed notion as to the no of options to attempt beprehand was not working out i(for me at test) so I just went question by question not really worried about the total at the end.
At any point don panic if you renain calm than you will definitely finish the paper with time to spare
What are the do’s and don’ts in exam
Always read the question properly times if necessary before answering , some time double negatives except’ may trap you.
YOUR recommended books for PG PREPARATION
-your class notes
-theory books mentioned earlier.
